Board and card games at UC EagleCon, WV
Open play from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the quiet end of the ballroom. Sit down at a table, borrow a game, and somebody will teach you if you want to learn.
What is on the shelf
The lending library covers the range: short card games you can finish in fifteen minutes, family games that work with a mixed age table, and two or three longer strategy games for people who want to commit an afternoon. The full list goes up in March.
Somebody will teach you
One table is a teaching table all day. Members of the UC Gaming Club sit there to run first games for people who have never played, and they are used to explaining rules to a table where nobody knows them. Turning up alone is normal, and being seated with strangers is how most people spend the afternoon.
If you want to learn one specific game, ask at the teaching table when you arrive and they will tell you when it is free.
Bringing your own
Yes, bring games. Check in at the tabletop desk when you arrive so the crew knows whose game is whose, and take it with you when you leave. Table space is first come. If you are bringing something that needs a big table, tell the desk early and they will find you room.
Library rules
- Sign a game out at the tabletop desk and sign it back in when you are done.
- One game per table at a time. Return it before borrowing the next.
- No food or drink at the tables. The games are borrowed, most of them from students.
- Count the pieces back into the box before you return it. The desk has the component list.
- If something is damaged, say so at the desk. Nobody is in trouble for a torn card.
- Games go back on the shelf by 4:45 PM so the crew can pack up.
