The FUSER station, on a controller we built
FUSER is a music game where you mix real songs together live. You pick a drum line from one track, a bass line from another, and vocals from a third, and the game keeps them all in time. It is closer to standing behind a DJ booth than to playing an instrument, and it takes about thirty seconds to understand.
The station runs on a DJ controller that students in the department designed and built around a Raspberry Pi Pico 2. The Pico presents itself to the computer as a standard USB game controller, so the game treats it as ordinary hardware while you are turning knobs and hitting pads that were soldered on a bench upstairs.
Somebody who worked on it is standing at the station most of the day. The wiring is visible on purpose, and questions about it are welcome. If you are a student thinking about building something like it, this is the conversation to have.
