About UC EagleCon, Charleston, West Virginia
A one day gaming convention run by a university department and a student club, in a ballroom, for anyone in the Kanawha Valley who wants to spend a Saturday playing games with other people.
What EagleCon is
EagleCon is about what you play, together, with people watching. Brackets with a real organizer and a printed ruleset, a stage program built to be watched, tables of board games with somebody there to teach them, and hardware students built so you can play on it.
It is free to walk into, it is over in a day, and it happens in one room so nothing feels far away. Most of the people in that room on the day are watching rather than competing, and the event is designed around that fact rather than in spite of it.
Who hosts it
UC EagleCon is hosted by the University of Charleston COSC, DASC, and MATH Department together with the UC Gaming Club. The department brings the room, the equipment, and the compliance obligations that come with a public university event. The club brings the floor crew, the game library, and most of the people who will teach you something on the day.
Vincent Smith, program director, is the event lead. Tournaments are run by Game Grove, with Ramsey Harki as tournament organizer, and Game Grove owns everything bracket related from format to seeding to disputes at the table.
